Overview

Pixel Pantry is designed to keep your grocery information private and collect only what is needed to provide the features you choose to use.

Information stored on your device

Your pantry items, quantities, expiry dates, shopping list, generated artwork, preferences, and saved recipes are stored locally on your device. Camera and photo-library access is used only when you choose to scan or select an image. Barcode, receipt, and expiry-date recognition is performed on your device.

Product lookups

When you scan a barcode, the barcode is sent to Open Food Facts so Pixel Pantry can retrieve available product names, brands, and images. Open Food Facts may receive technical information normally included with an internet request, such as your IP address.

Recipe suggestions

When you request recipes, Pixel Pantry sends the relevant product names, brands, quantities, expiry dates, categories, serving count, measurement preference, and selected cooking preferences to the Pixel Pantry recipe service. The service uses OpenAI to generate the response with storage disabled. An account identifier may be sent to authenticate the request and protect the service from abuse. Pixel Pantry does not use recipe requests for advertising.

iCloud sharing

Your pantry remains local unless you choose to share it. Shared pantry and shopping-list data is stored in Apple CloudKit and made available only to people included in that private share. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by its own privacy terms.

Notifications and tracking

Expiry reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your device. Pixel Pantry does not include advertising SDKs and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Retention and control

You can edit or delete pantry information in the app. Local data remains until you delete it or remove the app. Shared iCloud data remains until the owner removes the share or deletes the data. Support emails are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond and maintain support records.
